Will it hurt their fishing reels for use in salt water?
I live in Iowa and go on a trip to the Gulf Coast and I would not harm fish my coils for use in salt water and some tips for fishing in salt waters as baits to use in this time of year
I live in Oklahoma and my wife and I go to Galveston almost every year. I usually use my computer as a platform for surfing catfish. 9 foot rod with large capacity spinning reel. It's OK for use in water salt, as long as do two things every time you go out: 1. Be sure to clarify everything with fresh water once they are made. I've even seen some guys fill a 5 gallon bucket with fresh water back into the camping and literally immerse the entire reel in the bucket and splash around a couple of times. 2. Keep everything well oiled. Be sure to oil after every ride and sweet water rinse. You can get cans of spray lubricant reel in Wal-Mart or a sporting goods store. Not sure if it is WD40 different, but better safe than sorry. As for the bait, I always checked with the Department of Parks and Wildlife website. Usually have fishing reports and links to other sites with reports that will tell you what is biting where. I would also like to talk to a couple of bait shops to see what is happening. good bait shop will tell you what is biting where. A poor will tell you what is biting is biting as they have much to sell. Do a search on the Internet for bait shops in the area to be in. If you can not find a fishing report, at least you can get some numbers telephone call and ask. Another useful tip: If you are surf fishing, use a wire leader and a decline of 2 to 4 oz 2 oz pyramid weight. The pointed end weight is pushed into the background when it hits and keeps the bait to get washed ashore with the waves. You can get the leaders in the academy for about $ 2.00 each one. Good luck!
