Landing a Tuna
Tuna fishing adventure can be a difficult but rewarding. Tunas are very fast swimmers - some have been recorded moving as fast as 48 miles per hour. In addition, several species of tuna are warm blooded.
Unlike fish species, which have meat white meat tuna is pink to dark red. This is because tuna muscle tissue contains greater quantities of myoglobin, an oxygen molecule binding. The tuna has become a fish to eat, especially in the form of preserves. Most canned light tuna is skipjack tuna and relatively inexpensive.
Tuna fishing has long been a leisure activity. In the 1930 and 1940, bluefin tuna were abundant in the waters off the coast of Florida and were searched by the likes of Ernest Hemingway. However, despite the growing popularity of the sport, the boats of that day were not adequately equipped to fight the fish. In recent decades, the arrival of vessels built more custom has given new life to the sport of tuna fishing. Tuna fishing depends largely specific type of tuna is being sought.
Albacore Tuna live on the West Coast of the United States on a seasonal basis, especially between mid- June and late October. Normal range usually extends from Baja California all the way to Oregon. Albacore have even been as far north as the coast of Alaska and as far south central and tropical Mexico. During the rest of the year, migrate to Japan and then return to California.
Albacore usually prefer water deep sea temperatures are above 58 degrees Fahrenheit. As for bait is concerned, normally albacore fed mainly on small fish (such as anchovies and sardines). However, small shrimp and squid are also part of their diet. In addition, albacore often tends to feed on what is available at the time.
During a good year, albacore is within five to ten miles off the west coast - which means that fishermen will not to go far to have a chance of landing some of these types of tuna.
However, during years out, albacore can be more than 100 miles the coast. One way for fishermen to get an edge on the albacore is the study of sea surface temperature maps of tibia / water temperature gradients. This is because Albacora follow the warm currents along the California coast.
In addition, anglers should try to troll the hot side with pen templates and plugs. When one of the driving equipment is beaten, it's time to turn around the school and the distribution of live sardines or anchovies. Often prime bait living can bring to the school of albacore to the surface.
