Chincoteague waters offer a variety of opportunities for fishermen at sea. Spring weather is usually windy and boats do not often get to fish outside the entrance at the beginning of the season. When a calm day presents, anglers can catch bass or sea Tautog local shipwrecks and artificial reefs.
In June, monster bluefish arrive and are often present in large quantities along the line of 20 fathoms. This fishing usually amounts to a journey of 25 to 30 nautical miles from the entrance.
Days ago the bluefish are several species of sharks, the most sought after being the mako. Sandbar, tiger, fox, blue, blacktip, bull, hammerhead and other sharks also begin to appear around this time. fishermen premises to attract sharks by gavage with bottom fish, then with wire leaders baited with any bait can be achieved. Late summer usually brings changes to fishing at sea. Best fishing is likely that as the school of tuna and develop a larger appetite. Marlin, dorado and wahoo large are also more likely. Another important factor is the hurricane season. Some years we enjoy the beautiful weather of late season and they expect other systems work offshore. Patient anglers usually get a good day and a few enjoy good offshore fishing to fall.
By October, the Most fishermen at sea will turn his attention to the bass, flounder and Tautog. As cold waters, sea bass and striped bass or "rockfish" migrate to the coast.
