Deep Sea Fishing Mazatlan, Mexico

I'll try to give a fishing report of Mazatlan on January 20, 2009. The beaches are dead here and there is not much people around. We checked out the fishing reports were good. A few candles, the occasional dolphin, a tuna here and there, but about many Striped Marlin. Enrique Izquierdo, the Global Mechanism of the Net Fleet, approaches me at the dock. He has a small boat ready for the next day. The panga will come with a tube cathode., Yerba mate and is a typical 27 feet, the lawyer Evinrude center with two 90's on it. We reserve!

We left the dock at 6:25 am ... we are first to leave port ... something good in my book. We run on a heading of 200 degrees until 7:30 am. We are now about 22 miles and set up the lines. We are running out of bait in the legs, short corners lures, and bait in the middle ... but short.

After trolling for about 30 minutes, I see a tail in the water about 250 meters. I note the title of the CPT. and got out. The Marlin is a bait and is running. Bam ... HOOK-UP! Inhaled the bait, so it is not much of a fight. One in the box!

We re-establish and maintain out. Not more than 10 minutes, I see four tails in the air right in front of us. Are all candles, but after checking us out, they decide they are not interested. We went on.

I'm looking back behind the boat and another spot Marlin. We support circle, and this guy gives a blow-down and a good look. Finally, the third circle, he thinks is right for them. Bam ... another inhaled. He refuses to go because that is hooked so deep. Put the bat on the head and we now have our second Marlin of the day. We see many eddies close to the boat and the circle of the zones, but no takers. Today at 10:00 am and we have two on board, circled four candles and there was another action. By the way, when I was with so the second Marlin to the boat, I thought I saw something in the water. Turns out to be a school of giant squid. They reached the ship and the pilot dropped a mullet on them. Twice had a connection, but twice managed to get free. These squid were in the category of 4-5 m ... something I've never seen before. They could mullet bite a half ... apparently have teeth!

We are in some birds and we can not find out what birds are. They act like tuna but we have no buyers. We have spent five boats and a helicopter, a commercial tuna ... must be something in the area! For now, the CPT. has called the other boats and have company. We separate ourselves from the crowd (about 5 other boats) and head further. The blue water was about 25 miles yesterday, but we got to 30 miles and the water was clear / green. Around noon, we suddenly had a visitor in the baits. It was the first fish of the day that the queue. This Marlin hit a stabilizer (lost) and then went to the other. Another swing and a failure in this one and we were on our third circle. About the time they are giving up and leaving, appeared in the short medium bait. Bang ... another hook-up! He was close to the boat and kept approaching us. I'm just going to give up, but when he saw the boat, he wanted nothing of it. Was removed and ran about 300 yards out at any time. I am looking into the starting line directly behind the boat and see that fish jump out of the starboard side and began to think it was another fish. No, it was my fish dance on the horizon and I was beginning to worry about line section. This fish had at least six good jumps on it before that I had to work all the way back to the boat. It took me 30 minutes to get there. It turned out that I was hooked almost at the corner of his jaw and will not come to the boat. This had to be the hardest Striper I've had to deal. Number three is stacked on the boat for the trip home. We controlled a little more and passed another school of giant squid. One had a career in the overhang, but threw it down and moved on. We controlled within a few miles and then pulled the lines. It was a great day of fishing. We hit the dock at 2:30 pm and called it a day. Cpt. Rigo and the first mate Isaac were good for fishing. But even if recommend and this fleet to anyone. The good and a great day of fishing ... There is nothing better!
