Fishing in Guatemala 200-2009 Season Summary
Copyright (c) 2009 The Company Greatfishing
Our fishing season is almost a year tax, with rooms that each has a distinct personality and challenges associated with them. Outside the first quarter from July to September is a time in which to evaluate the wear in our infrastructure, and build our capital budgets for the next season in the second quarter from October to December is the work until the full season, both in a physical sense of the development of any kinks in our boats, crews and equipment or get ourselves adjusted to 4am wake up calls every day followed by long hours for everyone.
January to March is when things really go crazy - and the fish are stacked near the coast - as is the fishing day long and hard on the fisherman and teams alike. From April to late June is when we tend to see the majority of repeat customers who enjoy a more relaxed approach to their fishing, and although there is still a good buzz about the place, with lots of fishing action - is not as frantic as the previous quarter. Last year was almost a repeat wait for the odd challenge was launched at us.
The first significant factor was the fall in stock markets and credit it caused a lot of people to delay travel plans or postpone them until the committee can really determine the effect on his wallet and discretionary income. It's just for the afflicted to go to the Sailfish Capital of the World is not discretionary, it is required This lack of visibility caused us to defer some of our intentions spending until later or closer to the primary season - when we knew things would be run in parallel to ensure smooth operations, but at least then we were sure of the number of fishermen who come to chase billfish. Guaranteed to be a bit of panic, but we did before!
Sure enough, in November, the fishing was beginning to show some promise - we fish consistent number of good size blue marlin, and sailfish seemed be concentrated around the hot water and pods of bait - taking strong action and coherent, although the passage of strange cold front had pushed the fish out in sometimes. The panic was, however, as word spread and more fishermen were asking to lower the short term to build on the great start to the season that had been reporting - and our boat is still necessary routine maintenance that had to be placed between the groups and what they were supposed to be good morning. But when Fishing is hot, we need to go fishing - it's just the way it is .................. ............ And the bite was strong until Christmas.
These annoying fronts cold - unusual to see so many of them in the calm, warm waters of Guatemala by the end of the year - continued hastily unpredictable, so unpredictable fishing its path. We follow our hope for more stable weather patterns, as usual we moved to our "3rd quarter" and the New Year. In the second week of January, our hopes and expectations for a record season is bubbling just below the surface (literally!). The climate has become more stable, and we were watching early season fishing and the number of sailfish that we had not seen in years! There was one week in mid-January when they were fishing every day and bring back the depleted fishing pier - have raised more than 40 fish for days in some way above that! That's the kind of numbers that are reasonably regular - but usually late in the season, from late January through mid-March ................ could say that, possibly, things could get even more?
By the time February rolled around, we were really feeling pretty good - not only great fishing had fallen asleep, it seemed as if mood back in the north had improved so that the kids feel better to get out discretionary income and a commitment to travel - we had seen a sharp increase in reserves since Christmas - and this really fast now as news spread largely bite and breadth. This, coupled with relatively reports poor in Costa Rica saw a lot of new anglers coming to Guatemala for the first time to pursue our reputation for quality and quantity of fishing. As we move towards March, note that may be the St. Patrick's Day - but we are pleased to report that the water in Guatemala is not green! We had been reporting on how a current fronts weather had pushed green water near the coast, which in turn had been causing us some difficulties in the constant search for concentrations of bait and predators that feed on them. In the months rolled on, the weather remained all kinds with long periods of stable weather and warm that only helped in water. If blue take a look at the geography of the region is easy to see how lowering of Mexico currents collide with the coast and reflect back to form eddies attract and retain huge large amounts of bait. These strong currents coincide with the phase of the moon means water conditions - in particular, the location of blue water - May change drastically in just 48 hours ..... so even in the hard (or) fishing days, there is always hope and belief that tomorrow will bring a the famous 50 + fish per day day!
March gave us plenty of clear skies, warm days and plenty of fish - without too much of a walk from the dock. Almost every day we were finding clean blue water about 30 miles from home, and the fish can be a line that ran more or less directly to 15 miles - with rolling billfish each side of the same orientation prey. Sailfish number had been strong for all of March - but the sting of needle.
We had been constantly watching the needle during the season from November to now - and that seemed to be an increasing number (or perhaps just more aggressive for small baits) as we went into April - which for many is the classic season Blue Marlin. As we made the turn to our "4 quarter, "the late season fishermen came to enjoy a fishing adventure and varied. Although fishing moved to as many as 50 miles off the coast of most of months, we were blessed with a wonderful golden fishing. They came in large numbers - often "accompanied" by hunger Blue and Black Marlin, who considered them as such a tasty morsel that peanuts "would be a tempting appetizer - With the more mature fish is ........ and highlight them and found a lot of both. We saw some of the older bulls and cows of dolphins that we saw (and caught) in Guatemala during this last April - I think the best fish brought to the dock was much higher to £ 40 ....... which is a large gold "especially when you have not learned the etiquette, and emphasizes the great flapping around Bertram cabin when guys are still fishing!
The summary is therefore a season that began with a big bang - a bite in early January that gave us hope for a record season with many days 50 fish over high peak. Unfortunately Mother Nature intervened, and showed us some unusual weather in late January, which dispersed the baitifish and pushed to the warm blue waters and forth making it difficult to get things together. April was marked by some great marlin fishing - granders not reported this year, but many in the class of 600 pounds. This, along with some outstanding catches dolphins the first parts and end of the most productive season this year.
We know that things are still difficult, but we hope that you will be able to go down and get away from it all next season - it's amazing what catching large fish light can do to address their point of view! Certainly there is more confidence about this year over the same period 12 months ago - We are available strongly in the "peak" at times and favorite moons now, so if you have specific dates in mind, please contact us as soon as possible. We hope aa welcome Guatemala, the sailfish capital of the world (undeniable!)
