Spearfishing - Legal fish sizes in California?
What are the legal fish sizes that are game in Southern California? I know there is a pamphlet on the DFG website, but I rather would like to know of the common fishes that are really seen off the coast of california and the sizes that are legal to take?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, on a side note, when are the exact dates that lobster season is open?
Sorry im a bit new to the sport, but hopefully I will become as experienced as you guys are.

Minimum sizes for common so. Cal. fish (pages 40-51 in the booklet):
Sculpin, Boccaccio: 10"
Calico (kelp) bass, sand bass, sheep-head 12".
Halibut: 22"
Lingcod: 24"
White seabass, barracuda: 28"
There are also protected (zero limit) fish: the garibaldi and the giant sea bass are the ones you're most likely to see.
There are also closed seasons to worry about. In general, don't shoot at anything unless (a) you're sure you know the species, and (b) you're sure it's big enough and otherwise legal (remember, things look bigger under water.)
As to the lobster: from p. 57 in the booklet:
29.90. Spiny Lobsters.
(a) Open season: From the Saturday preceding the first Wednesday in October through the first Wednesday after the 15th of March.
I take that to mean Saturday, Sept. 27 2008, and I don't have a 2009 calendar here to figure out the closing date.
Anyway, if you're at all unsure, study the booklet, and don't just believe what people say online. Fish & Game tickets are expensive.
